Christmas Decorations: Festive Holiday Decorating That Can Be Fun And Easy!

For many people decorating during the holiday season is a must.  Some begin decorating when Thanksgiving comes around and take it straight through to Christmas.  Just like with any kind of decorating every person has their own tastes, so it is not any surprise that Christmas decorations vary greatly.  There really is not much you cannot find when shopping for your home.  Families often have decorating traditions as well.  If your parents always placed a nativity scene on their mantle, chances are you will do the same.  You can certainly keep to your decorating traditions while adding new touches here and there around your home.  You do not have to go over the top when decorating your home, and you do not even have to be extremely unique either.  You can keep your decorating classic and tasteful.

Welcoming Doors and A Holiday Kiss!

Due to the fact that most homes are filled with wonderfully green Christmas trees each holiday season, people tend to forget about decorating with other greenery inside and outside their homes.  Of course one of the most popular styles of Christmas greenery are wreaths.  Wreaths can be hand made and come in many different styles.  There are the always-traditional pine wreaths.  You can hang these within your home and on your door.  If plain green is your thing, then don't change a thing on them; otherwise you can add fake flowers and sprigs of holly.  Sometimes the pine wreaths come prelit with sparkling clear lights shining through the pine needles.  If they do not come prelit you can add outdoor Christmas lights yourself.  You can also add large red, green, or silver bows to the wreath for added Christmas warmth.  If you want something a little bit fancier you could get a holly berry wreath.  These wreaths although artificial resemble holly leaves, which make up the bulk of the wreath.  The holly leaves are decorated with holly berries creating a very full and colorful wreath for your home.  Traditionally many wreaths are made with grapevines.  Grapevine wreaths can be turned into Christmas wreaths very easily.  You can add artificial or even real pine tree sprigs, by weaving them through the grapevines as well as poinsettia flowers and red holly berries.

Other Christmas greenery like garland and mistletoe are also great additions to your holiday décor.  Regular pine garland can be spruced up with the same items you decorated the wreaths with.  By adding red berries and pinecones your garland will have the spirit of Christmas and an outdoor feeling.  Mistletoe is always a simple and fun addition to your home.  It is great for everyday life around the holidays as well as a fun favor during a Christmas party.

Make Use of Your Mantle!

Are you lucky enough to live in a home with a fireplace, complete with mantle?  If you are then there is not any better time to take advantage of it than the holidays!  A fireplace mantle is something that most people only wish they had when decorating their homes.  Even if the fireplace is not in use, by decorating on top and around it you give your home an incredible warm feeling during the holidays.  Before decorating the mantle you will want to make sure that everyone in your family has a special stocking, as well as a great stocking hook.  Placing the hook and the stockings on the top of the mantle to hang will be crucial in your decorating.  By putting the stockings over the fireplace you are creating a very well known Christmas scene.  Another great touch for the mantle is fake cotton snow.  Take the snow and space it out over the top and then nestle the stocking holders within it.  If fake cotton snow is not your style you can certainly decorate the top with pine boughs along with poinsettia flowers in pots.  Incorporating figures like angels, snowmen, or even Christmas oriented family photos into the mantle will give you a look that visitors will definitely envy!

Beautiful Villages and the Scent of Christmas!

Something else that falls into these categories are small Christmas villages.  Have you ever walked into someone’s home and seen a large table in the corner of the room lit up with tiny homes, churches, schools, and barns.  Christmas village collections are beautiful, but they take a long time to collect and even longer to set up.  They are one of the decoration options that most do not consider because they do not want the hassle.  Nevertheless most enjoy the look of them.  Consider just getting a house, or a few pieces from Main Street along with a small person and maybe even a horse and carriage.  These look great on the mantle or under the Christmas tree.  Embellish your candles with ribbons even if they are not Christmas scented.  You would be amazed by how much a simple red ribbon can add to a household item.  Do the same with your bowls, by taking a glass bowl and filling it with beautiful glass Christmas ornaments and pinecones.  Place the ornaments in goblets, or in a basket you keep in the bathroom.  You can even find a large selection of personalized ornaments to add that special touch! The options are endless for the ways you can decorate your home, new and old.  If you’ve ever seen a certain wrapping paper and thought it was beautiful, use it as a starting point for decorating.  Choose inflatable Christams decorations and place them around your home for added ambiance.

These are just a few of the holiday decorations that get overlooked from time to time.  Even if they are not overlooked it is quite common that people do not see their potential for changing a small thing here or adding a small thing there.  By following some of these simple ideas and even coming up with your own, your home will be on its way to looking great for the holidays.  You always have to remember to let your creativity flow during Christmas.  Take the old and make it new and add a little bit of Christmas spirit along the way!
