Christmas Ornaments for Mom Will Add Sentiment!

Kieran and Shannon were helping their mother unpack the boxes marked “xmas decorations,” when Kieran pulled her sister aside and whispered, “Do you want to come shopping at the mall with me later? I want to get some new Christmas ornaments for Mom at the Ornament Shop!

The girls’ mother, Teresa, viewed Xmas ornaments as the centerpieces of her holiday decorations, and she was always happy to get new ornaments for her collection. The two sisters had given their mother many homemade Christmas decorations when they were little girls. Now that they were older, they often gave her Hallmark ornaments as gifts for Christmas or St. Nick Day.

“Yeah, I heard Mom mention something the other day about 12 days of Christmas,” Shannon whispered back. “But I’m not going out into the holiday crowds. Why don’t we just look for Christmas decorations online?”

“Duh, why didn’t I think of that?” Kieran wondered aloud. “Okay, meet me in front of the computer tonight after dinner,” she smiled at her sister and gave her a playful nudge.

Later that evening, while their mother was cleaning up dinner and their father was watching a football game, Kieran and Shannon sneaked into the den to begin their online search for Christmas tree ornaments. Shannon did a quick Internet search that returned hundreds of results for online merchants of holiday ornaments.

Since Teresa’s artificial Christmas tree was always decorated with an eclectic mix of beautiful ornaments that included engraved, antique, glass, homemade and beaded ornaments, the girls had a lot to choose from. Every ornament meant something to Teresa, so as long as Kieran and Shannon chose one that represented something, they knew their mother would adore it.

“Oh, look!” Kieran exclaimed, pointing at a link on the computer screen, “Old world Xmas ornaments. Maybe they’ll have some kind of Irish heritage ornament. Mom would love that!” Shannon clicked the link, and the girls saw a lovely ornament depicting an Irish dancer. Teresa had always thought Irish dance was beautiful, but she wasn’t a dancer herself, so the girls continued their search.

“Didn’t you say Mom mentioned something about 12 days of Christmas?” Kieran asked her sister.

“Yeah,” Shannon confirmed. “Let’s look for that.” With a few more clicks Shannon and Kieran were directed to a webpage that offered a stunning collection of 12 days of holiday ornaments. The girls thought the ten-lords-a-leaping ornament was really cute, so they added it to their shopping cart. But the ornament was so reasonably priced that they decided to look for something else too.

They found a webpage offering personalized Christmas ornaments where they finally settled on a glass ball ornament depicting four snowmen. They were able to have the snowmen labeled, “Liam, Teresa, Kieran and Shannon,” and underneath the snowmen they added the family name, O'Flaherty. The final product was reminiscent of the homemade ornaments that Kieran and Shannon used to make for their mother when they were little girls, and they knew she was going to love it.

As Shannon finalized the order she looked at her sister and good-naturedly gibed, “I can’t believe you wanted to go to the mall!”
